Dedicated home cinema rooms often occupy attic space, where sloping walls and lack of access from above can present challenges vis-a-vis fibre optics installation.
A common response in these cases is to simply restrict the star field to a relatively narrow area near the apex of the roof, and this is what our customer Ben T did in his project. After chatting with him, we agreed a specification for a custom fibre harness with 240 fibres at lengths to suit his specific needs.
"The fibre optic ceiling was made with 8 smaller MDF panels," he explained. "We did one at a time as the light source was over 7 metres away, so one panel was painted and then drilled and then put up. We then threaded the cables one by one, before moving onto the next one. Was a long process but the results look great. The light source was hidden away in an equipment rack (but can be switched on or off with a remote using the Rako system). Very happy with the results..!"
To add another lighting effect to the installation Ben also used some of our LED rigid strips. These are available in RGB (colour changing) and single colours - blue and white - and, as you can see, he opted for the inexpensive blue strips to go around the perimeter of the star field panel and also around the projection screen.
The areas closest to the concealed LED strips appear white, but this is simply a result of the camera being unable to cope with the brightness of the LEDs. "The LEDs look fantastic," says Ben.
