LED Lighting Products
Starscape offers a range of linear lighting products in the form of short rigid strips (50/70 cm) and long (6 metre) tapes. The LEDs are spaced along the strip or tape to provide a good uniform distribution of light in a single plane.
This format is particularly useful for creating colour wash effects up or down a wall or across a ceiling. We've found that it is increasingly popular in home cinema projects. It also has natural applications in illuminating shelves and display cabinets and can be used to create light boxes with even levels of brightness.
Both the strips and tape are low profile products, which means that they are ideal for concealed lighting installations and can be discreetly incorporated into a room or piece of furniture. It's very easy, for instance to incorporate them within coving or skirting when creating wall or ceiling wash lighting.
Both the rigid strips and tape can be easily cut to the required length, or joined to create longer runs.

All of our current range of LED linear lighting operates on 12 volts, supplied through an appropriate Power Supply Unit (PSU). These are supplied in a range of sizes from 60 watts to 300 watts to suit the size of your installation, and may be simply plugged into the nearest available wall socket. However, in many cases customers may prefer to have an electrician connect the PSU to a wall switch for seamless integration with the existing lighting.
In the case of the single colour LEDs the only components you need are the tape or strips themselves and the PSU. (There are optional dimmer units available also.)
The RGB LEDs also require a controller which mixes the Red, Green and Blue channels to produce a range of colours. Entry level controllers, which are generally adequate for a residential installation, are inexpensive and offer a small range of popular colours. More sophisticated and expensive controllers can mix the three channels so precisely as to offer thousands of different shades.
Our entry level (Starconlt) controller, if matched with a 200 watt PSU, will control up to around 16 metres of RGB tape without the need for additional equipment. It is supplied with a remote control which allows for the selection of static colours and colour change programmes, and which also provides dimming. Where the total length of tape/strips to be operated from a single controller exceeds 16 metres it is necessary to add a Power Expansion Module (PEM) and its associated PSU to boost the signal from the controller so as to ensure consistency of colour along the whole length of the tape/strip installation.
If matched with a 200 watt PSU, the PEM will extend the LED installation by another 16 metres. If the extra distance required is just a few metres, then a 60 watt or 100 watt PSU may suffice.
