We stock several types and sizes of Polymer (pmma) Optical Fibre and solid core light guide, including: end-emitting fibre, multi-strand side glow fibre, solid side glow fibre, sheathed fibre and sparkle fibre. We can also supply additional fibre sizes not listed below. Feel free to speak to us about the most appropriate fibre type and size(s) for your project.

Please note: fibre ordered in small quantities, for delivery by post rather than courier, will be supplied hand-coiled, rather than on a spool.

Sheathed end-emitting Polymer fibre Sheathed fibre is more robust than bare fibre and does not glow along its length, making it suitable for applications such as garden decking, patios and paths.

Suitable for uplighter, downlighter and pool lighting applications. Solid side glow fibre Side glow fibre makes a virtue of the light leakage which occurs in any bare fibre, and can be used to create glowing lines indoors or out. It is particularly popular as a trim around the edge of swimming pools. Typically, more powerful light sources are used with side glow to produce the best effect.

Sparkle fibre This is side glow fibre which has been cracked to create "bright spots" along its length. This is popular for chandelier effects and "sensory kits".
Wire-reinforced sparkle fibre. As the name suggests, this fibre has a bendable wire insert enabling the fibre to stand upright and be easily formed into shapes. Outside diameter: 3.5mm	£1.45 mer metre	Quantity:

Sample pack Our sample pack is intended to allow customers to get some insight into the properties of different sizes of optical fibre at the planning stage of their project. (Contains 3 metres each of 0.75 and 1.50mm unsheathed Polymer Optical Fibre and 1 metre of 1.00mm sheathed fibre and two Acrylic end fittings.) If we have spare offcuts of fibre in the workshop you may receive additional samples in your pack. The processing of small fibre orders involves handling and administration costs which are often out of all proportion to the value of the fibre itself - in fact, most other fibre optic firms simply don't offer this service - and this is reflected in what might appear to be a high postage and packing charge. The value of the sample pack contents actually exceeds the £2.50 shown. If you do go ahead with a project which requires the purchase of additional fibre and a light source, we will be happy to credit the cost of your sample pack towards that additional purchase.

* These figures are approximate. Remember you can mix many different fibre sizes in the same harness if you want to.

All optical fibre supplied on the spool is the same price ...the difference being the length of fibre on each spool. The surface area of the fibre optic end determines its brightness. This is the most economical way of buying fibre for larger projects.

Optical Fibre
