*Our sample pack is intended to allow customers to get some insight into the properties of different sizes of optical fibre at the planning stage of their project. (Contains 3 metres each of 0.75 and 1.50mm unsheathed Polymer Optical Fibre and 1 metre of 1.00mm sheathed fibre and two Acrylic end fittings.)

Custom kits. Our standard kits may not always be exactly what you need for your specific star ceiling or other fibre optic lighting project, so we're very happy to make a fibre optic "harness" to your own specification. Work out how many fibres you need and in what lengths and we'll manufacture to your precise requirement. Or if you prefer we will supply fibre on the spool.

Fibre Optic Star Kits

Making your own star display or other decorative lighting effect is easy, and most of our kits go to homeowners who are installing fibre optics in their own bedrooms or bathrooms. Just purchase one or more of our kits, drill the required amount of holes in your ceiling, wall, bath panel etc. to your own design, feed the fibres through and plug in the lamp.

The kits shown below are our standard "off the shelf" kits, and are most suitable for star ceiling installations. The fibres are cut to different lengths, and in a normal installation in a bathroom or bedroom ceiling the light source sits in the attic above the centre of the display, with the fibres radiating out in every direction. Where this sort of layout isn't possible, we can make up a custom "harness" of fibres to suit your own circumstances, allowing for the light source to be located off to one side of the display, for instance. You don't pay a premium for the customisation - simply for any additional fibre required.

If you have some other type of fibre optic lighting project in mind the chances are that these standard kits won't suit, but don't worry since a large part of our business consists of making up kits to suit clients' individual requirements. You may want more fibres, or fewer fibres; fibres of longer or shorter lengths; fibres of different sizes or mixtures of sizes or a different type of light source.

For instance, since there is plenty of physical capacity in the light source, you could have a star ceiling kit which also included some of our "Sparkle fibre" so as to create a little chandelier or sensory harness. Or, you could use a handful of crystal end fittings among the stars. The crystals throw facets of light across the surrounding ceiling.
Adding half a dozen of these fittings to one of our star kits would probably add around £60 to the purchase price.

Whatever your project entails, do feel free to get in touch to discuss it with us. We'll be happy to talk it through with you and to work out the most cost-effective specification.

Components of our Orion star kit.

The star kit consists of a halogen light source in which a halogen bulb is mounted in such a way that its light is focused towards the "optical port". The optical fibres are terminated in a "common end" ferrule which plugs into that optical port so that the fibre ends are directly in the beam of light, and the light then travels along each fibre to emerge sharp and bright at the far end.

Starscape kits come supplied with a colour wheel, a standard twinkle wheel (for starry sky effects), a blue/white twinkle wheel and micro fibre lenses as standard.

However, for a starry sky effect we strongly recommend against the use of lenses - bare fibre ends are much better at representing natural-looking stars. If you follow our recommendations and don't use the lenses you can choose a spare 75 watt halogen bulb instead.

Kit 1 (the Orion)

120 stars DIY Starkit: £183.00 (plus p & p*).

120 points of light, mixed fibre diameters for 3D "near and far" effect, (90 x 0.75 and 30 x 1.00mm) . 3 different fibre optic tail lengths: 1.5 metres, 2.0 metres, 2.5 metres.

Tails fed by tungsten halogen light source with interchangeable colour wheel, black/white twinkle wheel and blue/white twinkle wheels.

Orion star kit(£183.00) with:

If you are making a star ceiling we strongly recommend against using the micro lenses. Bare fibre ends produce a much nicer effect. Only use the lenses if you want a more formal look - such as a grid of little lights on the ceiling.

Choose the bulb wattage:

Again, for a star ceiling, less is more, so we'd recommend a 50 watt or 75 watt bulb. However, this is largely a matter of personal preference.

Choose the effects wheels:

Please use the drop-down box above to select your choice of effects wheels. Your purchase price includes all three wheels, so you can select any of these options, but if think that you'd probably never use a particular wheel help us to avoid waste and take just those wheels that you expect to use. We don't want to send you something that will end up in your bin! If you decide later that you would like a particular wheel after all, we'll happily pop one in the post at no charge.

Remote control

Radio remote control allows you the flexibility of controlling the light source from a distance without the need for extra wiring ( if you have a socket already available).

Utilising a second remote on the colour wheel feed (100 watt lightsource with separate feed, Gemini or Great Bear kit) gives you complete flexibility.

Plug-in radio remote control £10.00
