LED Radio remote control
We must match the power requirement of the tape with the output of the power supply and the power handling of the receiver.
Our LED RGB colour changing tape requires 14.4 watts per metre, so a 5 metre run should need 72 watts of power. However, it’s always good practice to leave 20% in reserve so the power supply is not running on maximum output. This brings the power requirement to 17.28 watts per meter or 86.4 watts for the 5 metres.
Calculating your requirements:
Each receiver can handle 180 watts at 12 volts.
Here are some examples:
10 metres of 12v tape x 14.4 watts = 144 watts + 20% = 172.8 watts. So you will need:
1 x remote controller
1 x receiver
1 x 180 watt power supply.
12 metres of 12v tape x 14.4 watts = 172.8 watts + 20% = 207.36 watts.
Although the RGB receiver can handle 216 watts the largest power supply we have available is 180 watt output. And, as we can’t put two power supplies to one receiver we must add another receiver to the configuration. So you will need:
1 x remote controller
2 x receivers
2 x 150 watt power supplies.
No connection is necessary between the receivers as the signal is transmitted wirelessly.
The number of components needed for each length of tape are listed below together with pricing..
