Home Cinema Lighting Project 11
The images on this page are from a couple of projects both by Technoloje Construção e Tecnologia, S.A of Lagos, Portugal who provide home cinema installation along with other audio-visual and "smart home" technologies to both the Portuguese and expatriate communities
Tonight's feature appears to be Tron Legacy, in this good-sized elegant home cinema room. The LED rim lighting adds to the effect of the star ceiling and softens the boundary between wall and ceiling. As a point of detail, we understand that the sofa at left was a temporary feature and was due to be replaced by additional matching chairs.
We don't actually have many details about the installation, but as is common practice for such projects, we made up custom fibre harnesses after consultation about the project, having agreed on issues such as light source placement and star density.
If you're planning your own home cinema star ceiling do let us have the room dimensions (in metres please), the dimensions of the proposed star field and the proposed location of the light source(s). That will allow us to calculate the required fibre lengths, and from there we can move on to discussing star density. Star density is a matter of taste and budget, but we generally recommend that you think of at least 30-40 stars per square metre for a home cinema room. You can achieve acceptable results at lower densities of course, but more stars are always better. In our flagship Infinity system we have a star density of 100 per square metre.
In this view of the same project the star ceiling is not turned on, but you can still appreciate the quality of the overall installation.
However, the Infinity isn't for everyone: it has been developed specifically for the high end of the home cinema sector - for those who don't want to make any compromises when it comes to quality. Also, a key feature of Infinity is the ease of installation - vital for the professional installer but not always an important factor for the DIY enthusiast with plenty of time available.
Another fine project by the Portuguese company. Showing tonight The Fifth Element, we think. Again, the design features a slightly raised ceiling with the LED rim lighting and star ceiling. Click the photo for a larger version.
In this view of the second project the bar area is shown to good effect and you get a better idea of the scale of the room.
