Home Cinema Lighting Project 14
In the Spring of 2012 we were contacted by James and Karren O'D who were planning a dedicated home cinema room. Unusually, for a home cinema, there was a loft space above the chosen room - most home cinemas are either in loft conversions or downstairs/basement rooms.
So, since there was access from above, the fibres could go directly into the ceiling, with the light source positioned relatively centrally above the display. After some discussion it was decided that a custom fibre harness of 625 mixed diameter fibres would produce a very acceptable star density.
Also, there were plans for some additional effects lighting using LED tape and we were able to offer them a suitable package for this too.
Fast forward to the autumn of the following year, and a series of e-mails arrived with excellent photos of the finished job. Somehow, something happened over the next few days which provided enough of a distraction that those photos didn't find their way to the website. So, like the One Ring, the photos lay undisturbed for centuries - or at least months.
Then in the summer of 2014 a chance conversation with Allan Briscoe of West Yorkshire-based home cinema firm Ideal AV brought this project to mind. He'd visited the project and been very impressed, not just with the star ceiling but with the overall level of finish.
So, a quick search unearthed the photos, and we had to agree that they were certainly deserving of a wider audience.
The high standards of finish start in the loft, where the fibre runs have been very neatly organised.
We like the way the projector housing has been integrated into the bulkhead around the perimeter of the room.
Concealed LED tape lighting adds to the ambience both at ceiling level and at floor level.
We're not entirely sure that this step is necessary - but we are sure that we like the neatness of the implementation. Designing a home cinema room with extra little flourishes is one way of creating that sense of occasion before the film even starts.
The neatness of the joinery and carpet detailing all add to the classy finish which characterises this project.
